The day has finally arrived. It is game day in Knoxville, Tenn., and the Vols are hosting the Furman Paladins at 3:30 p.m. EDT. The game will be streamed on SEC Network+, with Richard Cross and Max Starks on the call. Ashlyn Sullivan will be reporting from the sideline. Tennessee holds a 2-0 all-time record vs. the Paladins. They are meeting for the third time and the first time in 84 years.
The Vols won the previous two meetings in 1941 and 1942 in what was John Barnhill’s first two seasons as head coach. Barnhill took over for Gen. Robert Neyland, who was called to war duty.
As you all know by now, Faizon Brandon gets the start for the Vols. He is the first true freshman quarterback to start the season for Tennessee since Brent Schaeffer took the field in 2004 against UNLV. Tennessee won that game 42-17.
For those attending in this extreme heat, Tennessee will allow fans to bring in one factory-sealed plastic water bottle. Reusable metal or insulated personal water bottles (like stainless steel tumblers, Yetis, etc.) are not permitted through the security gates. There will be free refillable water fountains/stations to refill your bottles.
