The biggest thing on Tennessee’s first availability report of the week is a name that isn’t there.
DeSean Bishop was left off Wednesday night’s SEC report, a good sign he’ll be ready when No. 1 Texas comes to Neyland on Saturday. The senior back left the Kennesaw State game early and appeared shaken up a little, but Heupel made it clear afterward that sitting him was about the bigger picture.
He said the staff “just didn’t think it was smart to put him back in” with the Vols heading into a conference stretch. Bishop has 286 yards and four touchdowns on 43 carries through three games.
Daevin Hobbs was also left off the report. Nathan Robinson and Javin Gordon are questionable after all three missed last week.
The out list for Tennessee are names we already knew. Ethan Davis, Joakim Dodson, Edrees Farooq and Jaedon Harmon are done for the year. The new one is sophomore safety Dylan Lewis, who appeared to suffer a lower-body injury against Kennesaw State.
Texas got some good news of its own. Colin Simmons is probable after leaving the UTSA game, and Sarkisian didn’t sound worried about him.
“I don’t think Colin’s injury is serious,” Sarkisian said. “It was more precautionary to get him out. I think Colin will be fine.”
The Longhorns will be without Justus Terry, who hurt his foot in warmups before the Ohio State game and was wearing a boot last weekend. Xavier Filsaime is out again after not dressing for any of the first three games. Nick Townsend is doubtful with a knee injury and Hollywood Smothers is questionable.

After Wednesday night’s initial SEC football availability report, there have been a couple of changes. For Texas, tight end Nick Townsend has been downgraded from doubtful to out for Saturday’s game. Townsend has saw action in two games this season, with one catch for nine yards.
Colin Simmons is no longer listed as probable, and looks good to go on Saturday as he is no longer on the report.
For Tennessee, both running back Javin Gordon and defensive lineman Nathan Robinson remain questionable.
