Monday, the Southeastern Conference announced Tennessee middle blocker Jolene Oddo as SEC Co-Freshman of the Week. Oddo received freshman of the week honors for the second consecutive week.
Oddo hit .480 and averaged 3.08 points, 2.50 kills and 1.17 blocks per set over two matches this past week. In Saturday’s sweep of Coastal Carolina, Oddo was the most efficient hitter on either side and finished with nine kills on a team-best .643 clip. She also added three blocks and two digs.
After Saturday’s game, Tennessee head coach Eve Rackham Watt praised Oddo for her work.
“She continues to get better every week,” Rackham Watt said. “She’s so good behind the setter, and I think we still need to use it more. It still needs to be more a part of our offense. But I was really happy with the way that she managed some of the tough situations she was in.
“She managed them well today, and then when she got her opportunities to kill the ball, she did. As a freshman, she continues to just learn and get better. Every week I feel like she’s taken another step forward.”
For the season, Oddo has recorded 37 kills at .357 percent, 21 total blocks and four digs. Oddo and the Lady Vols will be back in action Tuesday. They will face Queens University in Charlotte, N.C., at 5:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
