Saturday, Oct. 3, Tennessee Lady Vols basketball and head coach Kim Caldwell will find out if point guard Taylor Brown will choose Knoxville as her next home. Brown is No. 30 nationally on ESPN’s class of 2027 rankings, where they have her as a four-star prospect. Brown has received a five-star ranking in the 247Sports composite.
The 5-foot-6 point guard out of Long Island Lutheran in New York recently announced her three finalists: North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. She shared a story on her Instagram account with a countdown, signaling Saturday as decision day. A commitment would give Caldwell her first 2027 pledge.
Brown has great skills on both ends of the court. She can score the ball from deep, drive downhill to the rim through contact, and has the vision to find open teammates. Brown is also a solid defender and has shown she can lock down opponents. She has good anticipation and knows how to work the passing lanes, slicing her way to the ball without committing fouls. Her body control on both ends is advanced.
Coming from LuHi, one of the best girls high school basketball programs in the country, she already knows what it’s like to play in a high-level program. On SportsLifeTalk’s “You Got Next” podcast earlier this year, she explained how playing with her highly touted teammates has helped her prepare for the next level.
“It’s just taught me what college is really going to feel like because we’re all high Division I players going to big-time places and stuff like that,” Brown said. “So, it’s just taught me how college is really going to feel like. I’m not going to be the only one on my team. I’m going to be surrounded by great players. So, that’s what LuHi has taught me, definitely.”
Before transferring to LuHi, she won a state championship at Ursuline Academy in Wilmington, Delaware. In 2023, Brown was also invited to the USA Basketball Women’s U16 National Team trials as an eighth grader.
