KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Monday brings a new week, and No. 11 Tennessee football has moved on from its big win over Alabama. All focus is on South Carolina. The Vols are 6-1 and have a great chance to keep building. We heard from head coach Josh Heupel, defensive back Kayin Lee, wide receiver Mike Matthews and defensive lineman Tyree Weathersby, who was also named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week.
“Guys got back in the building this morning, able to watch the tape and see some of the good,” Heupel said to open his Monday presser. “But most importantly, see the things that were in control that we got to get corrected here. Obviously, going to South Carolina this week, facing a football team that’s playing really well. You look at the ability to go on the road two weeks ago against Florida and come away with the win, played extremely well in all three phases of the football game. We understand the environment, what we’re getting into, and we need to prepare, be elite in our preparation. Them having a bye week last week, an extra week on us, we got to make up that ground in our preparation and practice. We’ll get ready to go play smart football on the road here to get a win.”
Like Heupel, his team is also focused on the next step: winning in a hostile road environment. When Lee was asked about coming off a huge win and moving on to the next week, he put it clearly, “It’s already flushed down the toilet. We’re on to South Carolina, so we’re ready to play them. That win we just had, it was cool, but we’re on to the next.”
