Faizon Brandon had quite the start to his collegiate career on Saturday. After a fantastic performance with five total touchdowns against Furman, the true freshman quarterback collected a couple of weekly honors.
On Sunday, 247Sports named Brandon its True Freshman of the Week. Then, Monday, the Southeastern Conference named him the conference Freshman of the Week as well. Brandon went 13-of-17 for 226 yards and three touchdowns through the air with an efficiency rating of 246.4. On the ground, he rushed 10 times for 68 yards and two touchdowns.
His poise and smart decision-making on the field were noticeable to everyone who watched. Now, Brandon quickly goes from an opener against Furman to a road night game at Georgia Tech. Monday during the weekly press conference, head coach Josh Heupel spoke on Brandon and what he has to do for a successful Saturday night in Atlanta.
“Prepare the right way and empty the tank in your preparation,” Heupel said. “That’s film study, understanding what we’re doing. It always comes down to little things, that’s at home or on the road, but on the road it’s even amplified. So great in communication, control and command of what we’re doing. He’s gonna have to make plays, but he’s got to take care of the football as well.”
