Tennessee volleyball made it through the opening stretch 4-0, and dropped no sets. And to set everyone up for success was setter Caroline Kerr. On Wednesday, college volleyball reporter Michella Chester posted her Starting Rotation of the Week, and Kerr made the cut.
Kerr is an all-around player on the floor. She does a great job at syncing with her teammates and getting them the ball when and where they need it. She is also great defensively. There is nothing Kerr can’t do.
Teammate Maggie Dostic, who is one of the more efficient hitters, told us that it’s easier to be consistent with Kerr on the floor.
“You get a lot of one-on-ones, a lot of quick sets, and very efficient sets,” Dostic said. “So it’s very easy to be consistent.”
Through four matches, Kerr recorded 137 assists, averaging 11.42 assists per set. Against Fairfield, Kerr recorded 41 assists, her 40th career match with 40 or more assists.
The fifth-year setter from Champaign, Ill., makes life easier on the ones around her. New teammate Jalyn Stout spoke about playing with Kerr after Tuesday night’s win over Illinois.
“CK’s one of the smartest setters I’ve ever met,” Stout said. She went on to explain what makes Kerr so good in response to Theo Colli of the Daily Beacon’s question.
“She’s CK, there’s not much to it,” she said. “She’s extremely smart. She has an IQ that’s super high, and she knows who to give the ball to and when to give it to them, for sure.”
While Kerr is known mostly for her great facilitation, she’s also recorded 11 kills, 27 digs, nine blocks and four aces. Kerr and the Lady Vols will be in action on Sunday. They will face the Indiana Hoosiers in the Broadway Block Party in Nashville, Tenn., at Bridgestone Arena. First serve is set for 3 p.m. EDT on ESPN2.
