There’s nothing like brand-new leather. On Wednesday, Tennessee softball received its brand-new gloves from Rawlings. Lady Vols softball social media pages released the video of the team picking up their new gloves at Sherri Parker Lee.
The gloves are a black shell with orange as the primary accent and Summitt Blue as the standout secondary in the lacing and the script embroidery.
Rawlings began giving the Gold Glove Award to collegiate softball players in 2022. While a Tennessee player is yet to win the award, it’s only a matter of time. In 2026, Tennessee had some strong candidates.
Makenzie Butt, who played first base, recorded 122 putouts with one assist and no errors in 123 chances. Elsa Morrison, who had as tough a job as any being the freshman catcher, finished with a .995 fielding percentage. “She’s got the arm, she’s got the framing, she’s kind of the total package, and she hasn’t even reached her potential,” Tennessee associate head coach Megan Rhodes Smith said of Morrison in a prior interview.
Morrison caught the top pitching staff in the country all season, with only two errors and seven passed balls in 58 games. Erin Nuwer and Sage Mardjetko were two of the better fielding pitchers in the land. Neither recorded an error.
Tennessee will begin fall ball on Friday, Sept. 25, at Sherri Parker Lee. The Lady Vols will host Walters State and follow that Sunday with Lipscomb University.
